Class 4A playoff football: Laramie at Cheyenne Central notes
This story was set to run in Saturday’s Wyoming Tribune Eagle, but we had an overwhelming amount of local copy and this had to be axed.

CHEYENNE — The last time Cheyenne Central and Laramie met, Laramie turned the football over six times, and the Indians rolled to a 36-0 win.
Second-year Plainsmen coach Bob Knapton knows that has to change for his team to give itself a shot at winning Saturday’s Class 4A playoff game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Milt Riske Field.
“We looked at the film of the way we played, and that was kind of a terrible game for us,” he said. “We need to come out and redeem ourselves. … Maybe it was good to have a game like that, because the guys need to redeem themselves. I think we will.”
Laramie (3-6) has shown signs of improvement, scoring 35 points in each of its last two outings. It erased an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Cheyenne East 35-28 in a must-win game Oct. 23. The loser of that game was eliminated from playoff contention.
“They put up some points and won last week, so they must be doing something right,” Central coach Brick Cegelski said.
The Plainsmen moved senior Jon Sorenson from quarterback to halfback late in the regular season. Sorenson rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries against East. Sophomore Tanner Ibarra also gouged East for 142 yards, which nearly doubled his season output.
“I think we have a little more confidence,” Knapton said. “We’ve been playing a little tougher football, but we’ve got to come out, and we have to prove something.”
Laramie has rushed for nearly 800 yards in its last two outings.
“We have to stop the run,” Cegelski said. “Our defense, I think, is playing pretty darned good up front. We’ve got some guys who are figuring out how to play all this spread stuff.
“We got to see a little option last week. (Casper) Kelly Walsh put some yards up, but they didn’t do as much damage as they did to other teams. We were excited about seeing our kids do what they were taught.”
