Micaela Heigis, left, points to a belt that she didn't like as part of Katie Mugg's outfit as a conference committee of fifth graders from Arp Elementary debate a bill dress code for teachers on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, on the floor of the House chambers in the Wyoming State Capitol. The youngsters passed a dress code for Mugg, a tutor at the school, and each change represented an amendment to the bill. The overall dress coded failed to pass because the fifth graders on the House side didn't like Mugg's orange safety vest. James Brosher/staff

Legislature fist bump

By James Brosher

Share | Comments (0)

I got lucky today. I happened to walk into the Wyoming Senate chambers as the body was preparing to vote on an amendment. After the amendment passed by a vote of 21-9, one of the supporters leaned forward and gave a fist bump to a fellow senator who also supported the amendment. In the month I’ve been covering the capitol, this was perhaps one of the better moments I’ve seen. I usually end up with shots of lawmakers looking bored or speaking with their arms. A fist bump? I never would have thought.
