Cowboy Church

Cowboys are tough sons of guns. There is no doubt in my mind, and likely, none exists in the minds of others either.

On Saturday, I saw Croc Dumdi, a steer wrestler, fall from his steed at full charge. He skidded on the top of his head across the arena floor for nearly 10-15 yards before falling motionless on his stomach. After a couple seconds, he tried to come to his feet, head bleeding like a sacrificial lamb, and he fell again, unconscious. After the medics tended to him, he rose to his feet and walked off the arena floor with what looked like a raspberry-colored hair piece of blood covering his shaved head. He walked off! That’s tough, period.

Even with their myriad, and obvious, physical strengths, these cowboys often look for a solace for pains that cannot be shaken off or healed with a little dirt rub.

Cloud 9

This is the finished product in all it's glory. We were able to avoid all the distractions and poses that helped the other shots lack in goodness. In my opinion, this was more difficult than training for six hours a day. Just ask Stacy.

Stacy Farman is more man than me… but only in the figurative sense, of course. She has completed an astonishing 30-plus triathlons since 2006 when she finished her first event. Since 2006, I’ve ran 11 miles, walked 13 and swam 100 meters (the current carried me 94). As for bicycling, not since the early 90s when my Schwinn’s brakes blew out.

Anyway, Farman’s badness aside, I shot a portrait of her. It was a difficult 15 minutes dealing with bad skies, wires, buildings, bushes and grease on my favorite pink(ish) shirt.

WTE Month in Pictures June

by aontiveroz on Jul.09, 2009, under Month In Photos

America was in full force this month. Returned soldiers, celebrations of flags, a Cheyenne hoops legend was drafted into the NBA, Juneteenth-style jubilation, rodeo, baseball and a struggling national economy remained strong locally in Cheyenne.

Sadly, the UW Geological Museum, which houses massive dinosaur bones, went extinct. The University of Wyoming chose to close the museum due to campus-wide budget cuts. Michael Smith captured a classic photograph during the waning days of the cultural landmark.

Though this was a jam-packed month for news, not everything was devoted to all things serious. We had a great time photographing nature, kids at ease during their summer vacation and one heck of a Super Day at Lions Park.

All in all, the heat killed, the rain drowned and our myriad collection of stories kept us cool and afloat –  for now at least.

As always, thanks for looking.
