Indians capture the East

Regional soccer proved two things — Cheyenne Central’s unbeaten record is legit, and Cheyenne East’s luck is not.
Along with the fans, I watched 220 minutes of scoreless T-Bird soccer only to see them lose not once, but twice via shootout. It was obviously heartbreaking for the Eastsiders to lose in such a fashion — on two consecutive days no less. Even more so insulting, Gatorade Player of the Year Ben Borin missed his shot in shootout No. 2 — that’s an obvious slap in the face from Lady Luck.
Central, on the other hand, looked sharp and played hard as they won two matches by a 1-0 margin. In each Central game I covered this year, I was continually impressed by their stonewall defense.
I think Indian defender Brad Ramsey killed a Riverton player when he undercut him mid jump. Not to say I’m afraid of Ramsey, but he is seriously one bad dude, and I will do my best to avoid him in a physical confrontation. His career kill total, my younger brother included during the wrestling season (*R.I.P*), is nearing triple digits. Not a bad career for a kid who started driving and shaving about a month ago. Many applause, Mr. Ramsey, many applause.
In addition, Kevin Cox, who likely runs a 1.1 second 40-meter dash, scored a couple goals to eliminate the myth that size is everything. At 4-6 (not his actual height, I assume), Cox was the biggest performer of the weekend.
Entering the state tournament in Sheridan this coming week, I predict Central will take cake. Hands down the best team I’ve seen since the Laramie girls’ of ‘08… and I even think the ‘09 Central men could beat them given ideal circumstances.
