WTE Prep Athlete of the Week Lindsey Fearing led the Cheyenne Central Indians to a fifth place finish at the Wyoming State Championships last weekend in Casper. AAron Ontiveroz/staff
a troublesome shoot with an understanding subject is never as fun as having teeth pulled, but eventually things work out (i think).
for whatever reason, the lighting kit we use to shoot many of our portraits was giving grief to fellow wte staffer shauna stephenson and me during our previous couple of shoots. mine came at an inopportune time when i shot central’s lindsey fearing for our prep athlete of the week feature last tuesday.

so this is it, the big time? i’m on the road with fellow wte bad boy robert gagliardi blogging from within the confines of a very nice media room at the thomas & mack center in las vegas, nev.
ah, the allure of bright lights, sunny days, and an abundance of poolside aesthetics… who can complain? certainly not this photog.
last night we met some interesting people who were also taken in by sin city. one young lovely i met brought a tear to my eye. a working gal who hails from cheyenne. we talked for hours about the virtue of the taco john’s taco bravo in comparison to its taco bell counterpart, the double decker. truly, i was enlightened.

this is one of my favorite shots from state wrestling 2009. the photo is of central’s jesse hillhouse as he cruises to a major decision against gillette’s burke burgess during the quarterfinals. hillhouse, a defending state champion finished third after losing a 1-0 double overtime match in the semifinals against central sophomore leandro arias.

my name is aaron ontiveroz and i joined the tribune eagle photo staff in the spring of 2008. before that, i worked at the powell tribune and laramie boomerang, while finishing my degree in journalism at the northwest college in powell and the university of wyoming in laramie. my interest in photojournalism is probably inherent — my old man, milton ontiveroz jr., used to shoot professionally, but now he the only things he shoots are empty beer cans.
