Firefighters, Guard to sell cars for charity

What: Wyoming Army National Guard members and local firefighters will sell cars in October to raise money for charity.

When: Firefighters will sell Oct. 15-17 to benefit the Wyoming Muscular Dystrophy Foundation; Guard members will sell Oct. 23-24 to benefit the local American Legion.

More information: A percentage of profits from sales those days will be donated to the charities of choice.

“Cones for Kids” to help Children’s Hospital

What: “Cones for Kids” event at Baskin-Robbins stores

When: Monday, Sept. 28; 5-10 p.m.

Where: Baskin-Robbins ice cream store, 723 E. Lincolnway, Cheyenne

More information: Baskin-Robbins stores in Cheyenne and throughout Colorado will donate 31 percent of all ice cream sales to The Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Local celebrities and families and patients of The Children’s Hospital will be scooping up ice cream at select stores. The Cheyenne store is scheduled to have people dressed in Star Wars costumes helping out.

Another way to help: From now through Sept. 28, customers have the opportunity to make a donation on a special ice cream cone icon that will be posted on store walls. Donors will inscribe their name and favorite flavor on the “Cones for Kids.”

Dinner, carnival, dance to help with medical costs

What: Dinner, carnival and dance to help the family of Kimm and Teri Klitkze

When: Saturday, Sept. 26; Dinner, 5-7 p.m.; Kids carnival and games, 7-9 p.m.; Dance, 9-11 p.m.

Where: First Christian Church, 210 W. 27th St., Cheyenne

Cost: $10 for adults for the entire evening, $6 for children 12 and under, $2 for the dance only

More information: Raffles, drawings and auctions also will be held throughout the evening, along with door prizes.

All proceeds will be used to help the Kimm Klitkze family with medical expenses and other costs accrued following his stroke.

Special Friends holds mentor recruitment picnic

What: Special Friends’ annual mentor recruitment picnic

When: Saturday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Where: Mylar Park, east of Seminoe Road off Dell Range Boulevard, Cheyenne

Cost: Free.

More information: Special Friends is looking for new volunteers to mentor the youth on its ever-present waiting list. Special Friends provides adult mentors to children age 6-14, most of whom are from single-parent, low-income households.

Anyone interested in meeting Special Friends staff, current volunteers and youth and learning more about being a mentor is welcome to attend.

Activities at the picnic include a Homeland Security bomb-sniffing canine, flag Frisbee golf, Fire Engine #6, and several activities sponsored by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, including an inflatable castle and maze, DUI simulation vehicle and seat belt convincer. There also will be food and beverages.

Dog Jog to raise money for animal shelter

What: Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s 17th Annual Dog Jog

When: Saturday, Sept. 26; registration begins at 8 a.m., with the 3-mile run starting at 9 a.m. and the 1-mile walk beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Lions Park amphitheater, Cheyenne

More information: Organizers are inviting co-workers, friends, families, teammates, etc. to participate in a friendly competition against fellow “packs” to raise money for the animal shelter.

The “pack” collecting the most money to help the animals will receive the “Dog Jog Traveling Trophy” to display at a business or location of your choice for the next year, so start collecting sponsors now.

Community yard sale to benefit Safehouse

What: BioLife Beyond The Gold Community Yard Sale

When: Saturday, Sept. 19, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: BioLife Plasma Services, 2009 Bluegrass Circle, Cheyenne (In case of bad weather, the sale will move to the East High School lobby/lunch room.)

More information: All proceeds will benefit Safehouse-Sexual Assault Services in Cheyenne to support its dedication to nonviolent living and to go toward a new safe haven. Items remaining after the sale also will be donated to Safehouse.

The sale was organized by BioLife and is made possible by generous donations from community members. Domino’s Pizza has donated a limited number of pizzas, and Starbucks has donated coffee to the event. Pizza and coffee will be available for $1 each.

Community members can contribute to the cause by making a purchase or a cash donation at the event.

More information: Women Build is designed to empower women throughout Cheyenne to take a stance against poverty and substandard housing by raising the funds to build a safe and affordable home for a local family.
Women Build volunteers will work together to coordinate fundraisers such as Jump Into Jewels, net-working events and, most importantly, the construction of the home.

What: Saddle Up for St. Jude Trail Ride

When: Saturday, Sept. 12; registration from 9-9:30 a.m., trail rides begin at 10 a.m. sharp.

Where: Terry Bison Ranch, 51 Interstate 25 Service Road, Cheyenne

Cost: Donations of any amount will be accepted, but St. Jude offers incentive prizes based on certain amounts $35 and over.

Who benefits: All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Metal recycling helps Day of Giving help charities

What: Cheyenne Day of Giving’s year-round effort to help local charities meet the needs of those they serve.

How you can help: Take any non-magnetic metal to Cheyenne Recycling on South Greeley High-way. Tell the office that money from the donation is to be added to the Cheyenne Day of Giving account.

How it is used: Money redeemed from donated metal will be used to buy such things as food, cleaning supplies, toiletries and other items requested by local charities that are supported by Day of Giving and are struggling to meet client needs.
