More information: Baskin-Robbins stores in Cheyenne and throughout Colorado will donate 31 percent of all ice cream sales to The Children’s Hospital in Denver.

Local celebrities and families and patients of The Children’s Hospital will be scooping up ice cream at select stores. The Cheyenne store is scheduled to have people dressed in Star Wars costumes helping out.

Another way to help: From now through Sept. 28, customers have the opportunity to make a donation on a special ice cream cone icon that will be posted on store walls. Donors will inscribe their name and favorite flavor on the “Cones for Kids.”

More information: Special Friends is looking for new volunteers to mentor the youth on its ever-present waiting list. Special Friends provides adult mentors to children age 6-14, most of whom are from single-parent, low-income households.

Anyone interested in meeting Special Friends staff, current volunteers and youth and learning more about being a mentor is welcome to attend.

Activities at the picnic include a Homeland Security bomb-sniffing canine, flag Frisbee golf, Fire Engine #6, and several activities sponsored by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, including an inflatable castle and maze, DUI simulation vehicle and seat belt convincer.
