Whispering Chase collects school supplies for Arp

What: Whispering Chase Independent Retirement Community is collecting school supplies for Arp Elementary School.

When: All month, with a specific drop-off date at Whispering Chase of Aug. 6. From 9:30-11 a.m. Aug. 14, a bus will be at the Safeway store in Cole Shopping Center to accept donations.

Where: Whispering Chase is at 4350 E. Lincolnway, Cheyenne

More information: Just drive up and drop off supplies in the drive-though on Aug. 6 or go in and have refreshments. Donors also can arrange to have items picked up by calling the number below.

This is the second collection for the retirement community in as many months. Whispering Chase collected more than 400 pounds of food, as well as cash donations, for the COMEA House homeless shelter on July 3. Food donations toward that effort also still can be made.

What: Annual Cheer for Kids events this weekend featuring Rupert Boneham of the TV show “Survivor: Pearl Island” will benefit Rupert’s Kids and three local children’s programs

Friday, July 24:
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Meet Rupert at the Historic Plains Hotel, 1600 Central Ave. Beer mugs are $10, then beer is free.
8 p.m.-???, Rupert will sign autographs, pose for pictures and sell T-shirts at The Crown Bar, 222 W. 16th St.

Sunday, July 26:
Register at 10 a.m., ride starts at 11 a.m. – Ride with Rupert from Maverick Motorsports, 3320 E. Lincolnway, to the Laramie Harley Davidson store, have lunch in Laramie, then ride back to Cheyenne for the raffle drawing. Cost is $15 per person for the ride. Raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100, with prizes including a 400cc four-wheeler, a 90cc four-wheeler, $500 cash, guns, an oil painting and dinner for four with Rupert on July 27 at Texas Roadhouse.

Monday, July 27:
3-5 p.m., Join Rupert for bowling at Two Bar Bowl, 700 E. Carlson St., $3 cover charge, event will feature “Survivor” games

More information: Additional door prize tickets will be sold at each event. Proceeds from all activities will be split between Rupert’s Kids and three local programs – St. Joseph’s Children’s Home in Torrington, Cathedral Home for Children, and Holland and Hart’s Friday Food Bags children’s lunch program.

Children’s Society to hold fundraising dinner

Photos to benefit MADD in Enyeart’s memory

What: Western photo shoot and hot dog lunch, with proceeds to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving in memory of Lynette Enyeart

Where: Walgreens drug stores in Cheyenne

When: Two separate dates and locations have been established:
July 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2302 E. Lincolnway
July 22, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 1501 Dell Range Blvd.

Cost: Photo packages include a $9.99 value pack, 10 percent of proceeds will benefit MADD.

In addition, hot dogs, chips and soda will be served for a free-will donation, all of which will go to MADD.

More information: Lynette Enyeart, a local resident who used to work at Walgreens, died from her injuries several months after being hit Aug. 15, 2008 by a drunken driver as she was driving home from Denver on Horse Creek Road north of Cheyenne. Proceeds from this event will be donated to MADD in her honor.

Photo shoots will include cowboy/cowgirl outfits, cutouts, saddles and pictures with Guard military equipment as options. The July 22 event also will include autographs by Miss Wyoming Galaxy and blood donations through the United Blood Services mobile unit.

Where to donate: Walmart Supercenter; F.E. Warren Air Force Base Education Center-Embry Riddle Office; Needs Inc., Laramie County Library; Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power; Laramie County Community College and Maverick Motorsports in Cheyenne.

More information: Area residents can help make sure low-income students in Laramie County get supplies they need to start school.

Operation Back to School helps qualified kindergarten through college students start their school journey with the proper materials.

Big O Tires collects change for cancer patients

What: Big O Tires of Cheyenne will collect spare change to be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a fundraising effort to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Where: Either Big O location, 3714 E. Lincolnway or 5510 Yellowstone Road, Cheyenne

More information: On Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., both locations will hold complimentary lemonade stands complete with hot dogs.

The fundraising foundation evolved from a young cancer patient’s front-yard lemonade stand. Since Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) set up her stand at age 4, more than $25 million has been raised toward fulfilling her dream of finding a cure for all children with cancer.
