Allen Chapel uses grant for meals for low-income families

What: Allen Chapel AME Church’s Food Bank Program to Needy Families

More information: Thanks to a $1,000 grant from the Immediate Needs Fund of the Wyoming Community Foundation, Allen Chapel will provide an uncooked food basket that will include a full balanced meal for healthy eating to each low-income family.

The Wyoming Community Foundation is a charitable organization that builds and preserves funds established by individuals, families, corporations, agencies and private foundations. The foundation uses earnings from these funds to benefit community needs across the state of Wyoming.

More information: Funds raised from this event will help provide World War II veterans from the Cowboy State with the opportunity to experience the World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Mended Hearts seeks volunteers to give support

What: Mended Hearts, a national heart patient support group affiliated with the American Heart Association, seeks local residents to help with its patient-to-patient visitor program.

When: Year-round

How it works: Heart patient volunteers, specifically trained and accredited by the local chapter of Mended Hearts, visit other patients – either before or after surgery – during hospital stays and occasionally at home. Visits also may be made to non-surgical patients such as those diagnosed with angina, hypertension or heart attack.
Last year, accredited volunteers nationwide made more than 212,000 visits to heart patients, their families and caregivers in person, online or by phone.

Group meetings: Cheyenne Mended Hearts Chapter 132 meets the first Monday of every month October through May from 6-7 p.m. at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center-West meeting rooms. There also is a family picnic/walk in June at Lions Park and another picnic/walk in September at the Wyoming Hereford Ranch.

X-JWC to hold evening of fun, food for shelter

Cancer Society holds annual daffodil fundraiser

What: American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days fundraiser

When: Orders will be taken through Feb. 25.

Cost: Daffodils are sold in bouquets of 10 fresh-cut blooms. One bouquet is $8, five bouquets (50 daffodils) cost $35 and 10 bouquets are $60. In addition, you can order a Bear and a Bunch, which is a bouquet and a Boyd’s bear, for $25.
Orders will be available for delivery during the week of March 23.

Who benefits: Daffodil purchases help fund American Cancer Society cancer research, education, advocacy efforts and programs and services.

To give your time: Volunteers also are needed to sell daffodils throughout the sale.

DKG accepting book donations for annual sale

What: Delta Kappa Gamma is accepting donated books for its 26th Annual Book Sale, which will be held March 7-8.

When: Books are being accepted through Feb. 28.

Where: Collection boxes are located at all Safeway, Albertson’s and King Soopers grocery stores in Cheyenne.
Note: If you are not able to deliver your books, call 632-5406 or 632-9769 and leave a message. The club will pick up within a 10-mile radius of Cheyenne.

MOMS Club of Cheyenne accepts donations at fair

What: MOMS Club of Cheyenne Preschool Fair

When: 4-7 p.m. Feb. 19

Where: Laramie County Library, 2200 Pioneer Ave., Cottonwood Room

More information: At this preschool fair, the public will be able to speak to officials from local preschools and day-care centers that provide preschool classes and obtain information.

A monetary donation or items such as baby wipes, diapers, toiletries, laundry detergent, etc. will be accepted as your admission to this event. The money collected and items received will be donated to the Wyoming Children’s Society and CLIMB Wyoming.
