Charity luncheon raises $17,000 for two local groups

The third annual Santa’s Little Helpers Charity Luncheon, hosted by Texas Roadhouse in Cheyenne, set a record this year, serving more than 2,500 meals and raising about $17,000 for two local groups.

The four-day event, which offered a free lunch to residents in exchange for a monetary donation to local nonprofit organizations, united more than 200 volunteers and empowered them to make a difference in their community by becoming servers, hosts and cooks for the day.

Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County received $10,000 in donations for its Women Build Project, and The Salvation Army got $7,000 in donations for its Angel Tree Program and daily food program.

Check out our 2008 list of holiday projects

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

If you haven’t already seen the link at the right side of this blog or in the print edition of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, check out our big list of ways you can make a difference in the life of someone less fortunate during this holiday season.

This list kicked off our “Everyone gives, Everyone gains” project a little more than a year ago, and I’m so pleased to be able to say the project continues stronger than ever a year later. Although it would nice to not need it at all, it is nice to hear back from the folks at community nonprofits that it has made a difference.

Of course, you, our readers, are the real ones making a difference every day in southeast Wyoming. Thanks for all that you do, and keep up the great work! Happy Holidays to all!
